Join our board!

Are you looking for a way to do something productive and positive in our community?
Do you want to help projects and initiatives that make a difference?

River Valley Commons (RVC) seeks community-minded, motivated individuals to work with groups and organizations and to guide RVC by serving on our board.

Our mission is to enhance the well-being of the River Valley area and its residents by fostering collaboration and community initiatives.

As an RVC board member, you will help local organizations do what they do best. Our goal is not to do the project's work, but to help those who want to make something happen in the community.

We help:

Bring civic groups together to increase collaboration and skills.
RVC may convene gatherings, offer shared training, broker cooperative purchasing, and share best practices.

Facilitate the creation of projects that advance the community.
RVC will connect individuals and groups and assist with initial project development and planning.

Find expertise and resources to support community projects.
RVC provides expertise when available, or may refer groups to outside experts and funding opportunities.

Board members do things like:

  • Facilitate & Plan

  • Project support

  • Act as connectors and conveners

Being part of this board will not be as simple as attending a monthly meeting. We are expecting board members to spend 2-4 hours/week on projects and meetings. Board members share responsibility and work together as needed. No one is expected to have all the answers or do the work on their own.

We know it’s a commitment, but the work is valuable and can truly make a difference.

Board members must reside or work in the River Valley School District geographic area. They should have expertise in or a willingness to learn community/network building, facilitating/organizing, and non-profit infrastructure.

More details can be found in the board member job description.
